Moving from a storage unit to a warehouse.

Start with what your current space makes difficult: accepting deliveries, packing orders or loading equipment. Compare those daily tasks, the access you need and the total monthly cost before choosing your next space.

Compare the job the space needs to do
Your needWhat to check
Commercial deliveriesCan someone receive goods when you are away?
Daily picking and packingIs work allowed, and is there a suitable area?
Pallet handlingWho moves goods, with what equipment and at what cost?
Van or truck loadingDoor clearance, loading level, parking and appointments.

Compare permissions before floor area

Rules vary by provider and site. Some storage arrangements suit infrequently accessed stock; some warehouse arrangements restrict tenant access and rely on staff to move goods. Neither label tells you whether you can receive freight, work on site or leave a vehicle overnight.

Ask the same questions of each candidate. Write the answers down and confirm that they apply to the exact space you are being offered. A sales description of the building is less useful than the permitted activities, access route and hours for your own area.

  • Can commercial deliveries be accepted when you are away?
  • Can your team sort, pick or pack in the space?
  • Is loading at ground level, a dock or both?
  • Who handles goods, and what does each move cost?
  • What items and storage conditions are excluded?

Convert your current unit into a starting estimate

A 10 by 10 foot unit has 100 square feet of floor area. Flexlogix's storage-unit sizing method adds 10 percent as a planning allowance, giving an estimate of 110 square feet before optional work space. This is an illustrative sizing calculation, not a promise that a specific warehouse layout will fit.

Measure the largest items and account for how often you need to retrieve them. Dense storage and frequent picking have different access needs. If you need a packing table or a place to stage a delivery, describe it separately rather than treating every square foot as stock storage.

Compare one ordinary month and one busy month

Start with the monthly space price. Add recurring services and expected handling charges, then show the deposit separately as an upfront amount. Repeat the calculation for a busy month with more deliveries or pallet moves. That exposes costs that a simple advertised rent comparison misses.

Before moving, confirm the notice period at the old space and the acceptance date at the new one. Arrange the vehicle, access and receiving contact. Use a tour to follow the actual route your goods will take, including any lift, ramp, door or aisle that could become a bottleneck.

You can browse published Flexlogix spaces without an account. If no suitable space is listed, request a match and describe what your current setup cannot handle. Availability, operating terms and permissions must be confirmed before a booking becomes an agreement to occupy space.
