Count peak inventory, then leave room to reach it
Use the busiest expected week as well as the average week. A fresh delivery can arrive before older inventory sells. Record pallet dimensions, carton sizes, whether goods can be stacked and whether individual products need frequent picking. Stackability must be confirmed for the goods and the site.
Our calculator converts common units into an estimated floor-area range. It can help you compare options, but it cannot approve a rack design or establish a site's storage rules. Tell the operator about tall, heavy, fragile or temperature-sensitive goods before treating the estimate as a fit.
Decide who handles each step
Space rental and outsourced fulfillment solve different problems. You may need a place for stock while your team continues packing orders, or you may need a 3PL to receive, store, pick and ship for you. Renting floor space does not automatically buy those services.
Write down who accepts deliveries, counts discrepancies, puts inventory away, prints labels and handles returns. Confirm whether carriers collect from the site and what happens when a delivery arrives without an appointment. Get any handling or service fees in writing alongside the monthly space receipt.
- Confirm receiving appointments and carrier access.
- Ask whether your staff can pick and pack on site.
- Allow an area for returns and damaged stock.
- Check charges for inbound and outbound pallet moves.
Prepare for the move without losing track of stock
Label inventory before moving it. Keep a record of what leaves the old location and what arrives at the new one, including damaged cartons. Agree on the first delivery window and which contact will receive it. A short walkthrough of the loading path can reveal problems that an empty floor plan misses.
